ShareGate Microsoft 365 Migration & Governance Services

Insyto assesses, plans and delivers Microsoft 365 migration and collaboration-modernization projects, using ShareGate where its migration or governance capabilities fit the approved scope. Content, identity, permissions and the operating handoff must be designed together.

A migration is complete only when the right content is in the right place, people can use it, exceptions are resolved and the new tenant has an owner.

A migration is a sequence of decisions

Read this map from the source estate to ongoing operations. ShareGate Migrate may support movement and reporting; Insyto's project scope provides target-state design, validation and handoff.

  1. 01

    Source estate

    Tenant, sites, teams and users

Identify SharePoint, Teams, OneDrive, mail, groups and identity dependencies before deciding what moves.

  2. 02

    Discovery

    Inventory and exclusions

Measure content and workload scope, find inactive spaces and record items that need cleanup or special handling.

  3. 03

    Migration design

    Destination and waves

Map users, sites, permissions and cutover dependencies to the approved target structure.

  4. 04

    Execution

    ShareGate Migrate where appropriate

Move agreed workloads in controlled waves. Tool selection and exact workload coverage depend on the project plan.

  5. 05

    Validation

    Reports and acceptance

Review successes, warnings and errors, then verify content, access and user workflows in the destination.

  6. 06

    Governance

    Sharing and ownership

Resolve permission exposure, workspace ownership and lifecycle decisions after the move.

  7. 07

    Operations

    Microsoft 365 managed scope

Assign recurring administration, governance and optimization after project handoff.

What makes Microsoft 365 moves difficult

An unknown starting inventory

Tenant size, workspace count, external users and content dependencies are not reliable enough for a migration plan.

Content that should not move as-is

Old SharePoint libraries and abandoned Teams carry duplicate, stale or overexposed material into a new environment.

Tenant consolidation pressure

A merger or organizational change forces user mapping, group ownership, mail and collaboration decisions onto one schedule.

Different source and destination structures

Copying files alone cannot settle site architecture, Teams ownership, permissions or search behavior.

Warnings mistaken for completion

A migration report can show changed, skipped or failed items that need triage and business acceptance.

A technically complete but unmanaged tenant

Users arrive in the destination while sharing rules, workspace owners and recurring administration remain unclear.

Migrate and Protect have different jobs

ShareGate Migrate

Plan, move and reconcile

ShareGate documents tenant-to-tenant and SharePoint, Teams, OneDrive and Exchange migration options. Its migration report distinguishes successful items, warnings and errors. Tool reports support troubleshooting; they do not replace source-to-destination checks or user acceptance.

ShareGate Protect

See and address access risk

Protect provides visibility into who has access, risky sharing and permission issues across a Microsoft 365 tenant. It can inform cleanup before or after migration, but governance decisions and any ongoing product administration need defined owners.

SharePoint & Teams transformation

ShareGate's separate Microsoft 365 migration assessment is available only to select partners. This page does not claim Insyto has access to that feature.

Insyto delivery extends beyond the tool

Two canonical professional services carry the work. The migration project moves and validates agreed workloads; the collaboration project can restructure SharePoint and Teams rather than simply copying the old estate.

  1. 01 / Assess & plan

    Establish scope

Inventory sources, users, dependencies, access and governance requirements; define the destination and waves.

    M365 security consulting
  2. 02 / Migrate & modernize

    Execute in waves

Move agreed mail, files and collaboration workloads, pilot the design and validate content and access.

    M365 migration service
  3. 03 / Stabilize & govern

    Resolve differences

Review warnings, permissions, ownership and search; document exceptions and destination policy.

    SharePoint & Teams service
  4. 04 / Operate

    Hand over the tenant

Agree ongoing administration, security coordination, workspace governance and optimization separately.

Five routes from problem to operating model

Consolidate Microsoft 365 tenants

Situation: Two estates need a common destination after organizational change.

Approach: Inventory workloads and identities, map the target, migrate in approved waves, then validate access and mail/collaboration behavior.

Restructure SharePoint and Teams

Situation: Sites, channels and permissions no longer fit how teams work.

Approach: Define the information architecture and owners before moving agreed content; test navigation, search and access afterward.

Reduce migration uncertainty

Situation: The scope is too large or inconsistent to price or sequence confidently.

Approach: Inventory source workloads and exceptions, decide what to exclude or archive, pilot representative moves and use report findings to refine the plan.

Stabilize after cutover

Situation: A project has moved content, but users report access issues and no team owns the new tenant.

Approach: Reconcile warnings and permission differences, document exceptions and hand recurring tenant and workspace administration to named owners.

ShareGate sits inside a Microsoft 365 program

Microsoft 365 is the destination platform for Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, mail and identity. ShareGate supplies specialized migration and governance tooling where it fits. Insyto assesses dependencies, delivers the scoped project and defines the handoff. ShareGate does not replace Microsoft Entra identity design, native tenant administration or Copilot readiness decisions.

ShareGate and AvePoint

This page emphasizes discovery, migration execution, report-based validation and destination permissions. AvePoint's partner page centers on workspace lifecycle, backup and recovery. Both offer broader capabilities; platform choice follows requirements, not a blanket ranking.

ShareGate and Insyto: common questions

What is ShareGate used for?

ShareGate separates Microsoft 365 migration tooling from governance tooling. Migrate helps plan, move and report on in-scope workloads; Protect helps teams see and address access and sharing risk in the tenant.

What can ShareGate Migrate move?

ShareGate documents tenant-to-tenant support for SharePoint, OneDrive for Business, Teams and Exchange, subject to the product plan and workload limitations. Insyto defines actual workloads and validation within a separate migration project.

How does tenant-to-tenant migration work?

The project maps source users, groups, content and permissions to the destination, sequences moves and cutover, then reviews reports and user acceptance. A tool does not replace tenant design or identity decisions.

How are ShareGate Migrate and Protect different?

Migrate supports discovery, content movement and migration reporting. Protect provides ongoing visibility into who has access, risky sharing and governance issues. They answer different questions and are not interchangeable.

Can ShareGate identify migration risks before work begins?

ShareGate offers discovery and planning capabilities, including Migration projects. Its separate Microsoft 365 migration assessment is currently restricted to select partners; Insyto does not claim access to that partner-only feature.

How does ShareGate help with permissions?

Migration reports and permissions views can expose differences or risky access. Insyto's broader project still needs an approved access model, remediation decisions and validation at the destination.

Can ShareGate support Copilot readiness?

Governance visibility can help identify broad sharing and stale workspaces, but Copilot readiness also requires identity, sensitive-data and adoption review. Insyto scopes that assessment separately.

What happens when migration is complete?

The project should close with reconciled reports, access checks, documented exceptions and an operating handoff. Ongoing Microsoft 365 administration is a separate managed-service scope, not an automatic extension of migration.
